Paramount Skydance Bids for Warner Bros. Discovery: Here's what you need to know.

Earlier this morning, it was revealed that Paramount Skydance is preparing a large cash bid for Warner Bros. Discovery.

Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) wasn’t founded until April 8, 2022, after Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures merged together to create Discovery. Their previous works include classics like The Dark Knight, which is by far my favorite film of all time. They’ve also produced the Dune series, Interstellar, Inception, and many other legendary projects.

Just over a month ago, on August 7, Paramount Global and Skydance Media officially merged, creating an exclusive media company on top of the world, Paramount Skydance (PSKY). This partnership happened because Paramount was at a low financially, due to losses in its streaming service, but Skydance Media was the key to revival in front of Paramount. They would help Paramount with financial backing and to revitalize their assets following the change in leadership.

Why is Paramount Skydance Putting a Bid Up?

Paramount Skydance (PSKY) is preparing a bid, most of it being cash, to buy everything of rival entertainment beast Warner Bros. Discovery. WBD’s $33 billion market capitalization is over double that of Paramount. However, through the family of new Paramount CEO, David Ellison, they will able to make it happen. David Ellison’s father, Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle, reached the top of the world in wealth this week.

Around a year ago, Discovery announced ideas to separate their debt-ridden television from its streaming and studios. With this, Paramount may be aiming to get in front of an impending bidding war for the latter, per The Wall Street Journal (WSJ). Although there’s no official bid set so far, this transaction is very likely to go through, boosting the new partnership even more.

If this acquisition were to happen, it would bring together some of, if not the best known entertainment brands, all in one place. Not just the brands, but the most iconic characters ever like Superman, SpongeBob SquarePants, as well as more classics like Star Trek and The Matrix. A bright future lay ahead, if this were to happen, and it’s very unlikely anyone would overtake this dynamic trio, technically a squad. Of course there hasn’t been any official moves yet, so the event of an aborted mission is possible, but very unlikely. I find it hard to believe that with the capabilities to do so, PSKY will miss out on the chance to create yet another big three that we’ll know and love forever.

In the end, whether or not PSKY follows through with their bid, we’d still be witnessing two very strong duos at the top of the entertainment industry, to never be surpassed, and will go down as legends. If you were to ask for my opinion, I say there’s about a 70% chance that this goes through. With all the resources and money to make the move and solidify my spot on top of the world that’ll never be taken over, without a doubt, I would do so. Of course it’s not down to me, just Paramount Skydance and time will tell, but that’s all you need to know about this potential game-changer.
